  Pastor/Elder/Shepherd/Minister/etc.

For those of you with "full-time" pastors or elders, what are their weekday duties? Do they make visitations? Call on members and families? Visit and pray with the sick? Host bible-studies or prayer meetings? Invite people for meals? Anything else?

I am interested to see what the different levels of involvement are. Please leave me a comment with a quick description of some of the things your minister does to shepherd the flock during the week. If you don't mind, please leave your denomination as well. I am not trying to prove anything, just interested really. Thanks!

Ok, I guess there's even less people reading this than I thought. Or, no one has any shepherds, which is possible.

Hey Christo, maybe some of your readership belongs to churches like mine that do not have "full-time" elders.

Ok, I will rephrase my question, because the answer should be the same. What do the elders in your church do for ministry during the week? (See items listed above)

OK, then. Both of my elders have "regular jobs" which keep them busy during the week. I'm not sure that they have any regular church duties, other than meeting with each other to keep abreast of the goings on and coordinate the calendar and efforts. They both do many things as needed, such as calling men, counseling, helping the widow in our church arrange lodging, and of course preparing their weekly teachings and planning church activities and direction.

Chad, when you say that they help the widow in your church arrange lodging, does that mean she stays with families in your church, or something entirely different. What's the arrangment?

Actually, she did stay with a couple families for awhile until we found a suitable apartment for her.

So the elders and some of the men helped her scout, checked out places that she was interested in, and helped her arrange the details, move in, etc. Of course the elders didn't do all this themsleves, but they did take charge of coordinating it.

My Thoughts on Prayer
Our Father which art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts
