  Book Binding

In discussing Postmillenialism with Chad he refered me to a free book online by David Chilton at www.freebooks.com. Upon downloading this 700+ pg book I lamented to Chad that I was really a print person, as I hate reading books online. What to do?

Well I figured out that my printer prints double-sided, booklet style; so you can print out a whole book, cut it in half and put it together. I did a little internet research on home book binding and by the end of the weekend had a two-volume, hardcover set containing "Days of Vengeance."

I will post some pictures of how they turned out soon. It is really fun binding books and making covers for them and I will probably be on a kick for a couple weeks making a bunch of them. Thanks again for the link Chad!

I'm interested in seeing how it came out Christo. An alternative method is having your paper cut by an office supply store (one that has a large machine that can cut a stack at a time) and then printing the pages out and binding. I haven't done any real binding myself, so pass on the details on what you did. So far all the books I've printed out have been 8.5X11 and put in 3-ring binders. I've lloked around at various presses and binders but haven't had the time or energy to mess with it yet.

With so many books online in the public domain now, its good to be able to do this.

Chad, thankfully I have access to a paper cutter and I made some custom tools for the job, so I had everything I needed. The book comes out so that it is 5.75 x 8.5. The 700+ pages were so thick that I ended up splitting it into two volumes. It looks just like a regular hardcover book (size-wise). I forgot my camera tonight, but I'm working on another this week as well that I will try and get some photos of. It is a great thing to be able to know how to do, and I plan on teaching my kids how to do it too! It's a great craft, and a cheap way to expand your library, as there are now tons of online books! The most helpful thing is having a printer that does double-sided printing automatically, and what's called "duplex" or "booklet" printing.

I guess I should add that I only spent $15 for supplies, and those should last me at least another 10-15 books. I will post a step-by-step sometime this week. It's really easy, really fun, and I found it to be very relaxing as well.

My Thoughts on Prayer
Our Father which art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done

Give us this day our daily bread
